While our hospice homecare census varies by seasonal trends in population, we care for about 285 people in their homes or nursing homes and assisted living communities on an average day.
We never turn hospice patients away based on ability to pay. All Medicare beneficiaries are eligible for and have a right to the Medicare Hospice Benefit. The Benefit covers costs related to the patient’s terminal illness including care, equipment, medication, supplies, doctor visits, etc.
Each patient has a special team who cares for them including registered nurses, their attending and/or our hospice physicians, social workers, chaplains, hospice aides, massage and music therapists and volunteers, including volunteers who bring trained pets to visit. Many of our clinical staff members hold advanced certification in their specialty of hospice and palliative care.
Over 75% of all people in Collier County die with hospice care and Avow cares for 73% of those individuals and families. These penetration rates are 25% higher than state and national trends.
