Vip Grover – Chairman

VipGrover_web-240x300Vip Grover joined the Avow Hospice, Inc. Board of Directors in 2011. He is currently serving his first term as Chairman of the board. Mr. Grover has also been a member of Avow’s Marco Island Community Advisory Board since 2008 and currently serves as its chairman. Mr. Grover is the managing partner and agent of V.I.P. Insurance Services on Marco Island, joined the Board of Directors for Avow Hospice on April 23, 2011.He is also past president of the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce, has chaired and co-chaired fundraisers for the Art League of Marco Island and has chaired the corporate sponsorship team of Relay for Life (American Cancer Society, Marco Island Unit). Mr. Grover is a graduate of Leadership Marco. He is also a graduate of Lafayette College of Easton, PA and holds a bachelor’s degree in business and economics.

Charles Hoffman – Immediate Past Chairman

chuckhoffman Charles Hoffman is Immediate Past Chairman, after completing several terms as Chair in May, 2017. He served as chairman of Avow’s Promise Campaign (2009 – 2011) and is currently chairing the Promise 2 Give Campaign. Chuck has worked in the financial industry since 1981. Currently, he is a financial advisor in a local firm. He is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oneonta where he received a degree in business and economics. He has been a charter member of Kiwanis, is a member of St. Ann Knight’s of Columbus and has served on several homeowner association boards. Chuck is married and has three children and has lived in the Naples area since 1987.

Roger Lipitz – Treasurer

Roger-LipitzRoger Lipitz joined the Avow Hospice, Inc. Board in July, 2011. He is a former chairman of the board of the Baltimore Development Corporation and of the University of Maryland Medical System. He also chaired the board of Meridian Healthcare, the largest provider of long-term care services in Maryland. He is a past president of the American Health Care Association, the largest nursing home association in the U.S., and also served as president of the Maryland Nursing Home Association. He is a trustee of the Johns Hopkins University and chair of the Health Advisory Board at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Jay Johnston – Secretary

has served as a member of the Board of Directors since July 2006. He is also active in fundraising with Midwest Palliative and Hospice CareCenter of Glenview, Ill. Johnston is chairman of QuesTek Innovations, LLC, a privately held company that designs and markets high tech materials. From 1975-1999, he held numerous positions at Abbott Laboratories, most recently corporate vice president for Diagnostic Assays and Systems. He held numerous other positions with Abbott Laboratories, including president of Dainabot Co. Ltd. and vice president, Asia Pacific. Mr. Johnston has experience in general management, product development, technology management, strategic marketing and business development. He holds an MBA in general management from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration and a BA in public administration from Dartmouth College.

Jaysen Roa – President & CEO


Jaysen Roa joined Avow as President & CEO in October, 2015.

Prior to joining Avow, Roa served as Executive Director at Good Shepherd Hospice, Inc. an affiliate of Chapters Health System, Inc. based in Lakeland, Florida, and was responsible for the daily operations of the hospice’s 550 patients, 300-plus staff and three free-standing inpatient facilities. Roa’s extended hospice experience includes directing clinical, business development, fundraising and community relations operations and ensuring regulatory compliance. He developed and implemented a pediatric palliative care program and has engaged in local, state and national efforts to promote recommended hospice legislative actions.

Prior to working at Good Shepherd Hospice, Roa held leadership positions at Hernando Pasco Hospice (HPH), Inc. and worked at Hospice of Citrus County, Inc., both based in Florida.

Roa is a Certified Hospice Administrator who holds a Master’s in Business Administration and Master’s in Health Administration from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from University of South Florida in Tampa.

Phyllis Hall – Chief Financial Officer

Phyllis Hall is an ex-officio member of the board. She joined Avow in October, 2015 and serves as Chief Financial Officer. Hall is responsible for the management and general oversight of financial operations, patient accounts, facilities and information technology.

Hall is a Certified Public Accountant and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting at the University of Wisconsin. Hall joined University Hospitals Management Services (a physician management services business) in 1998 as chief financial officer.

Hall is a member of Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Prior to joining Avow, Hall was Vice President and Executive Director of University Hospitals Management Services Organizations, University Hospitals Medical Group and University Hospital Practices based in Cleveland, Ohio.
