Join us for a thrilling 59 Minute Series luncheon featuring Naples Veteran Jerry Sanford as he talks about his new book, “It Started with a Helmet.” Sanford recounts how a firefighter’s helmet at a North Naples station took him to New York City just one day before the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. That day, Sanford, a 29-year FDNY firefighter, had a chance reunion with dozens of long-time friends who would heroically perish in less than 24 hours. He writes about the devastation and destruction he witnessed first-hand as Sanford returned to New York and joined his fellow first responders as a volunteer during the recovery phase of the attacks. “It Started with a Helmet” is a story about perseverance and the resilience of the human spirit, told by Sanford in an entertaining way that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
