    2016  marks the 40th anniversary of the SWFL Charity Regatta organized by the Gulf Coast Sailing Club. This year, a portion of net proceeds from the event will support the Children’s Bereavement Program of Avow as well as special needs sailing in Collier County and other charitable causes.     Avow children grief support

    Children and teens who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life have the opportunity to participate in a new monthly support group at Avow. The sessions, led by children’s bereavement counselor Raquel Gonzalez, are designed to give children the opportunity to express feelings, build coping skills and reinforce positive memories of their loved ones in a safe and caring atmosphere. Children will join peers who have also experienced loss to engage in age appropriate discussions and activities.

    Sessions will be held on the first Thursday of the month.

    Children age 5 to 11 may attend from 3:30 – 4:30 PM
    Adolescents and teens age 12 to 17 may join the 4:45 – 5:45 PM offering.

    Both groups will be held at Ispiri community center on the Avow campus at 1095 Whippoorwill Lane in Naples.

    There is no fee to participate; signed parental consent is required and may be completed at the first session. Call Raquel Gonzalez at 239-261-4404 for more information.

    Avow, Remembering, Memorial Service, Grief Support

    Anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one is invited to attend Avow’s Rememberingsm memorial service on Monday, April 11 at 7:00 PM.  The program features music, readings, a candle lighting and reading of names of those being remembered. The program will be conducted at the Ispiri community center on the Avow campus at 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples.  Attendees are invited to bring a photo of their loved one to put on display during the service. The service is non-denominational, open to the community, and offered free of charge thanks to an endowment by Mr. and Mrs. Maurice D. Kent. Those wishing to attend should RSVP to (239) 649-3697 and provide the name of the person(s) to be remembered.

    2nd Tuesday of each month 4:30 – 5:30 PM

    If you are coping with a serious illness, fatigued from caregiving or grieving a loss, we invite you to take some quiet time to “unplug” from your daily challenges and fears through restorative guided meditation.

    Guided meditation sessions combine music, breathing techniques and guided imagery to help you relax, de-stress and connect with your higher self.  The sessions are led by Louise Kenny, LCSW and held in the peaceful, serene setting of the Ispiri community center located on the east end of Lake Glenna on the Avow campus (1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples).

    Come… relax, restore and give your spirit a lift.

    And feel free to bring a friend!

    No fee to attend; no RSVP necessary.

    Serious illness challenges the spirit and soul to grow in ways we might not have thought possible in our healthy years. This time of illness offers great opportunities for pastoral care. Chaplain Dunn will discuss some of the medical decisions that might have to be made such as what to do about CPR or feeding tubes. Each of these medical decisions has a spiritual and emotional element. He will conclude with looking at the emotional and spiritual issues at the end of life. He calls this “the journey to letting be.”
